Your Lace Wallet Just Got a New Layer
Your Lace wallet now gives you access to Midnight mainnet. If you have been wondering what that actually means, the answer is simple: you can now explore a new model of blockchain privacy directly inside the wallet you already use.
Midnight is now accessible in the Lace extension. There is no new app to download and no new interface to learn. Here’s what has changed, and why it matters.
Two blockchains, one familiar wallet
Lace already supports Cardano and Bitcoin. Midnight is now part of that experience, bringing a different approach to how assets and transactions can work on-chain.
Most blockchains treat every transaction as public by default. That works well for transparency, but it is not always what you need or want. Midnight introduces selective disclosure, giving you more control over what is visible and what remains private.
Your Cardano assets carry on exactly as before. Midnight simply adds a new layer of choice alongside them, all within the same wallet you love and know.
For a quick visual guide, watch our video on how selective disclosure works in Lace, featuring Dave, our lizard mascot, learning the hard way:
Public and private assets, side by side
Before you dive in, it helps to understand that Midnight supports two types of assets.
Unshielded tokens work more like the assets you may already know from Cardano or Bitcoin, where transactions are visible on-chain.
NIGHT, Midnight’s native token, is unshielded, which makes it useful for areas where transparency matters, such as governance.
Shielded tokens work differently. Balances and transaction details are not publicly visible, with privacy protected through zero knowledge technology. You do not need to understand the underlying cryptography to use it. What matters is that you have more control over what is shared.
Lace now lets you manage both shielded and unshielded Midnight addresses in one place, making it easier to explore how selective disclosure works in practice.

What you can do today
With Midnight mainnet now live, you can already start exploring what this looks like in Lace.
You can manage Midnight assets inside Lace, generate DUST, explore Midnight DApps, and get a feel for how privacy-preserving design works in practice.
A quick note on DUST: think of it as the resource that powers privacy-preserving interactions on Midnight. Lace gives you a simple way to view and track DUST generation directly in your wallet.
Why this direction makes sense
Lace has always been about giving you control across assets and networks, without adding unnecessary complexity.
Midnight fits naturally into that direction. The future of blockchain is unlikely to be fully public or fully private, it is more likely to be flexible. Some things belong on-chain for everyone to see, while others do not. Midnight is built for that balance, and Lace makes it easier to explore.
Ready when you are
Update Lace to the latest version and Midnight will be there waiting and ready to explore. If you are new to Lace, setup only takes a few minutes.
Take your time and look around. This is the beginning of something worth understanding.
